Overview
About this Spot
Bowles is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. This spot is known for its rocky bottom and provides both left and right waves, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. Bowles is situated near Bilgola Beach, nestled between Avalon and Newport Beach. To reach Bowles, head to the Bilgola Beach car park and look behind the pool; Bowles is usually the most northern break behind the pool. Surfers can either rock off or paddle out and around the pool to access the waves. The surf spot is characterized by its regional classic quality and very consistent wave frequency, with wave lengths typically less than 50 meters. Bowles is often uncrowded, offering surfers an empty lineup. However, caution is advised due to the presence of urchins, rips, undertow, rocks, and man-made dangers such as buoys. The wave can get pretty shallow and sucky on dead low tide, so it’s important to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. This spot is a good wave for both bodyboards and surfboards. When surfing crowded spots, always check the surf etiquette. Respect the locals.
