Overview
About this Spot
Smiths Reef is a surf spot located in South West Australia, Australia. This spot is known for its right-hand waves, with a bottom composed of sand and rocks. The waves here are considered a regional classic, making it a popular choice for surfers with an intermediate level of experience. The waves at Smiths Reef break regularly, with a length of less than 50 meters. The spot is not typically crowded, so you can expect to find only a few surfers in the water. The best time to surf here is during medium tide. In winter, the river at Smiths opens and changes the sand movements, creating good banks but rendering the reef inactive. However, the beach breaks remain excellent. Access to Smiths Reef is similar to reaching Supertubes. Head towards Yallingup, but look out for Smiths Beach signs just before you arrive. Nearby surf spots include Smith Beach, Super Tubes, Smiths Point Left, Palastines, and Yallingup. When planning your surf session, be sure to check the surf forecast, report, and map, and consider using a webcam to get a live view of the conditions. Remember to respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals.
