About this Spot

Lefthanders is a surf spot located in South West Australia, Australia. Known for its consistent small to medium waves, Lefthanders attracts surfers of all skill levels. The spot features a rocky bottom and offers both left and right waves, making it versatile for different surfing styles. The waves start working at a swell of 1.5 meters, with the best conditions occurring at low tide. On bigger days, the waves can hold up to 3 meters, with higher tides making it easier to surf. The offshore shelf, known as the ‘6 foot bubble,’ provides an easy takeoff for those in the right position, and the inside left barrels are fast and fun, allowing for high-performance surfing. However, on very westerly swells over 2 meters, the waves can sometimes close out. Lefthanders can get crowded due to its popularity, so it’s important to check the surf etiquette and ensure your skills match the conditions before paddling out. The spot is accessible by heading south from the Gracetown area and following a graded track to a car park with facilities. Despite the crowd, the vibe is generally positive, but it’s crucial to respect the locals. Additionally, be aware of the sea life, as there have been shark sightings in the area, especially during certain times of the year. Respect the locals.
