Overview
About this Spot
Cut is a surf spot located in South West Australia, Australia. This spot is known for its long rides and both left and right waves, making it a versatile location for surfers. The break is situated about 500 meters out from the rivermouth, behind the inner port where the estuary drains into the sea. The wave quality is considered a regional classic, with a length ranging from 150 to 300 meters. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and the best conditions are often found at low tide. The spot is known for its regular frequency, but it remains relatively uncrowded. Surfers should be aware of the strong currents and rips, as well as the presence of sharks in the area. The Cut is suitable for both longboards, due to its long rides, and shortboards, thanks to its fast, open, barrel sections. The best time to surf here is after rain or a storm, when sediment from the Leschenault Estuary is deposited on the break’s bottom, making the waves more hollow. The left side of the break is generally better, as the right can section off due to sand movement. Accessing the spot requires a paddle of over 20 minutes or a boat. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Always check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. Respect the locals.
