About this Spot

Sunshine Beach is a surf spot located in Queensland, Australia, just south of Noosa Heads on the Sunshine Coast. The beach stretches for about 3 kilometers and is known for its exposed beach break with peaky, powerful waves that break over a sandy bottom. The spot provides both left and right waves. Swell and sandbank conditions change the shape and quality of the waves, and the area is a swell magnet, especially when nearby Noosa points are too small or crowded. The best surf conditions are with east or southeast swells, a minimum swell height of 2 feet, and winds from the west or northwest. The spot works best on medium to high tide. There are strong rips and punchy shore breaks, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Beginners can find easier waves on smaller days, but when the swell is up, the waves get more powerful and are better suited for intermediate and advanced surfers. The beach is less crowded than Noosa points, but localism can be present, so respect the locals, especially when the spot is busy, and always check the surf etiquette when the lineup is crowded. Access to Sunshine Beach is easy, with multiple entry points along David Low Way and through Sunrise and Castaways Beach. Facilities like barbecues, showers, toilets, and parking are available mainly at Ed Webb Park. The area is patrolled by lifeguards and the Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club during the main season. Boards of all types are used here, from softboards and longboards to shortboards and retro shapes. Nearby surf spots include Burgess Creek, Castaways Beach, Alexandria Bay, Noosa First Point, and Little Cove.
