About this Spot
Currumbin Alley is a surf spot located in Queensland, Australia, known for its consistent waves and suitability for surfers of all levels. The spot is situated at the mouth of Currumbin Creek on the Gold Coast, a region famous for its world-class surf breaks. Currumbin Alley is particularly popular for its right-hand waves that wrap around the point and towards the creek, making it an excellent choice for longboarders. The bottom consists of sand and rocks, and the spot works well on all tides. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters, providing ample opportunity for surfers to enjoy long rides. Currumbin Alley is known for its very consistent surf, and even on flat days, there is usually a wave to be found, making it a reliable spot for surfers. However, surfers should be cautious of the rips and undertow, especially when the swell is large, as the current can become strong. It’s advisable to paddle out from the beach to the south when the waves are big and to be mindful of the rocks. The best access is to jump off the keyhole on the north side of the rocks, but it’s important to check the rip before doing so. Parking is available next to Currumbin Creek mouth, but surfers should avoid parking in the car park on the beach when the swell is huge. The spot is located between Kirra and Burleigh Heads, and can be reached by driving along the Gold Coast Highway. Surfers are advised to lock their cars and keep their keys on them. Currumbin Alley is a world-class wave, often seen as second to Kirra, Snapper, and Burleigh, but it offers some of the best right-handers on the Gold Coast. Surfers should respect the locals and check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded. It’s also important to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals.
