About this Spot
Etty Bay is a surf spot located in Queensland, Australia. This relatively sheltered bay features a 700-meter long beach and is situated in Far North Queensland, approximately 15 kilometers from the township of Innisfail. The beach is accessible via a scenic drive over the Moresby Range. Etty Bay offers both left and right waves, with a sandy bottom and medium tide conditions. The surf quality is considered normal, and it is suitable for surfers of all levels. However, the spot rarely breaks, and the waves are typically less than 50 meters in length. The beach is generally empty, providing a peaceful surfing experience. Nearby spots include Bingil Bay. Etty Bay is known for its fine grain white sand and is backed by a narrow tree-shaded reserve. The beach is enclosed by rainforest, offering opportunities for bushwalking and wildlife observation, including sightings of the endangered cassowary. The Surf Lifesaving Club, founded in 1935, is located on the beach, and a stinger net is installed for safe swimming during the stinger season from November to May. Surfers should be cautious of potential hazards such as crocodiles, Box Jellyfish, and Irukandji jellyfish. It is important to check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded and to assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your surfing level. Respect the locals.
