Overview
About this Spot
Trousers Point is a surf spot located in Tasmania, Australia. This spot is known for its sandy bottom and offers both left and right waves, making it accessible for surfers of all experience levels. The waves at Trousers Point are generally less than 50 meters in length, and the surf quality is considered normal. The spot is not crowded, providing an opportunity for a more solitary surfing experience. The surf frequency is occasional, and the best conditions occur when there is a big westerly swell, and the wind shifts to the north or northwest for offshore conditions. The waves can get bigger as you walk around the beach, and there are right-handed beach breaks to be found. The surf is often sloppy and closes out, but it can offer some fun waves when the conditions align. When gale-force westerly winds blow at 50+ knots, clean waves can break near the picnic area, and a rare right-hander can peel off the rocks. Trousers Point is more sheltered than other western surf spots, making it a viable option when the wind is strong. It is located about a 15-minute drive from Whitemark, the main town, and can be reached by driving down Lady Barron Road, turning right at the gravel road, and following the signs. Parking is available at the picnic area, and from there, it’s a walk down to the beach. Although you can’t see the wave faces from the picnic area, you can observe the whitewash to determine if it’s worth walking around the beach. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Also, remember to check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots. Respect the locals.
