The wave length is less than 50 meters, and the spot is typically empty, providing a solitary surfing experience. The surf spot is located near other spots such as Stokes Bay, Vivonne Bay, Hanson Bay, West Cape, and Chinamans. To reach Middle River Wedge, follow the road past Stokes Bay, which becomes a bumpy dirt road. It’s advisable to ask locals for directions to Middle River Beach, but avoid asking about the surf as locals may not consider it a surf beach. There is a car park near the entrance, but you’ll need to walk for 10 to 15 minutes with your board and gear to reach the end of the beach. Park close to the sand dunes near the river mouth. The spot is known for its rips and undertow, and there are rocks and sharks present, so caution is advised. The wedge forms once a year with a heavy swell due to the river mouth being right in front of a cliff face. This spot is primarily for bodyboarders, while the beach break is open to anyone.
