Overview
About this Spot
Chicken Run is a surf spot located in South Australia, Australia. This spot is known for its right-hand waves and features a boulder bottom. It requires a significant amount of swell to start working, and with a wave period of 14 seconds and over, it can produce a heavy, fast wave. The spot is ideal when there are onshore winds and lots of swell, as it is protected from strong southwest winds. However, it can get crowded with a dozen surfers, so it’s important to check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. The waves here are fun, but you may have to wait for good sets to come in. There is no white water to paddle through, which means you won’t get tired arms. The surf spot is a short walk from Bashams car park in Port Elliot. To reach the spot, take the track on the right when you get to the beach, go up over the hill until you find a spot with lots of boulders and rocks. The tide is best at medium and high, and the wave length is less than 50 meters. The spot is suitable for surfers of all levels, but it’s crucial to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Nearby surf spots include Frenchies, Bashams Bommie, Knights, Middleton Point, and Horseshoe Bay. Respect the locals.
