About this Spot

The Cove is a surf spot located in Perth Area, Australia, on the southern side of the Cottesloe Groyne. The spot is known for its rocky bottom and is best surfed at low to medium tide. The Cove is not suitable for beginners, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot matches your level. The main peaks here are The Ledge and The Peak. The Ledge breaks over a shallow reef and offers a long, fast ride, but the sets tend to close out, so it is better for quick maneuvers and short rides. The Peak has a hollow takeoff and is fast, then slows down and flattens out before a closeout section, where you can generate more speed. Both peaks require attention to the shallow reef, and you should be careful when surfing here. The spot is frequented by intermediate and advanced surfers, and the crowd can be moderate, especially when the waves are good. Respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the spot is crowded. The Cove is accessed by parking in the cove car park near the Cottesloe Groyne, then walking down the main stairs. You can leave your gear under the cliff. The spot is close to other breaks like Isolator, Cottesloe, Slimeys, Voodoos, and South Cott. The Cove works best with swells from the southwest and west, with a minimum swell height of 3 feet, and the best wind direction is from the northeast or east. The waves here are regular, with a length of less than 50 meters. Boards commonly used are shortboards, mid-lengths, and retro boards. There is a risk of sharks in the area, so stay alert.
