Overview
About this Spot
Florence North Jetty is a surf spot located in Northwest, Oregon. This regional classic offers waves suitable for all experience levels. The spot features both sand and rock bottom, and can be surfed at all tides. Wave length typically ranges from 150 to 300 meters. Florence North Jetty is known for its regular wave frequency and is often uncrowded, making it an attractive option for surfers seeking a less busy spot. The surf spot is situated near other notable breaks including Florence South Jetty, Yachats, South Umpqua Jetty Beach, Newport South Beach, and Newport The Box. Surfers should be aware of potential hazards such as rips, undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks in the area. The spot can be mushy during high tide but still offers good power. On big low tide days, it can become fast and hollow. It’s recommended to bring a shortboard for larger swells and a longboard for smaller days. For the best waves, paddle out near the jetty and catch the rip out. On good-sized days, you’ll find a nice right breaking about 70 yards to the right of the jetty. While this peak requires a bit of a paddle, it can be rewarding. Always check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. When the spot is crowded, it’s important to respect the locals and follow proper surf etiquette. Florence, the nearby city, is located at the mouth of the Siuslaw River on the Pacific Ocean. It’s situated midway between Newport to the north and Coos Bay to the south along U.S. Route 101. The area was originally inhabited by the Siuslaw tribe of Native Americans. Remember to always check the latest surf forecast and report before heading out, and consider using surf maps and webcams if available to assess conditions.
