About this Spot

Laguna Creek is a surf spot located in Bay Area, California. The spot provides both left and right waves. It features an exposed beach break with a sandy and rocky bottom. The surf conditions are suitable for intermediate surfers, with waves typically less than 50 meters in length. Laguna Creek is known for its regular wave frequency and is often uncrowded. The spot is best surfed during low to medium tide. Surfers should be aware of potential hazards such as rips, undertow, rocks, and sharks. The beach break can be hollow, and backwash may occur at high tide. When checking the surf forecast and report, keep in mind that the optimal swell direction is southwest, with favorable conditions during small northwest wind swells or clean south swells. Waves are typically best around mid-tide when the tide is falling. To access the spot, drive north on Highway 1 from Santa Cruz and park in the dirt lot at the corner of Highway 1 and Laguna Road. A 0.5-mile walk across the highway and along a dirt trail leads to the beach. The spot offers a great view, with a small lagoon visible to the left of the surf. A point-like left break can be found on the south end of the beach off a small rocky shelf. Nearby surf spots include Shaks, Four Mile, Three Mile, Davenport, and Natural Bridges. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. When the spot is crowded, remember to respect the locals and follow proper surf etiquette. Laguna Creek is part of a larger ecological system, with the creek flowing into a lagoon before reaching the Pacific Ocean. The area is known for its diverse wildlife, including various shorebird species, and parts of the beach may be closed during nesting seasons to protect local bird populations. Always respect these closures when visiting. Despite some challenges, Laguna Creek is considered a good spot that’s worth checking out, sometimes offering excellent surf conditions with few people in the water.
