About this Spot

Santo Domingo is a surf spot located in Central, Chile, in the Valparaíso Region, near the town of San Antonio. The spot sits on a long, sandy beach that stretches for about 20 kilometers and is known for its dark, fine sand. The surf break at Santo Domingo is a beach break with a sand bottom, and the waves can be inconsistent, sometimes offering good sessions and other times not working well. The spot provides both left and right waves. Surfing conditions are best during the winter months when distant groundswells from the west reach the coast, and offshore winds come from the east. The surf spot is generally empty, so crowds are rare, but always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette if the spot gets busy. Rips and undertow can be present, so be cautious in the water. The spot is suitable for all levels, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters, and the spot only breaks sometimes, so always check the surf forecast and report before heading out. Water temperatures range from about 10.8°C in August to 17.1°C in February, so a 4/3mm wetsuit is recommended most of the year, with thicker suits needed in the coldest months. Access to Santo Domingo is easy by car from Santiago, taking Route 78 to San Antonio and then heading south along the coast. Parking is available near the beach, and the area is accessible with standard vehicles. Nearby surf spots include Las Cruces, La Cruz, Chepica, La Castilla, and Isla Negra. For more details, check the surf map and local webcam for real-time conditions.
