Papudo is a surf spot located in Central, Chile, about 120 kilometers north of Valparaíso and 50 kilometers from La Ligua. The spot sits close to the town of Papudo and is accessible with a short walk from the center. The surf break is over a rocky bottom, and the area has sea urchins, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The spot works on all tides and sometimes breaks, offering waves that are less than 50 meters in length. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Swells from the north and northwest work best, with southwest winds being favorable. The water temperature ranges from about 11.8°C in August to 16.4°C in February, so a 2/3mm wetsuit is recommended for surfing. The spot is suitable for all levels, but always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The crowd is usually light, but when it gets busy, respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette. Nearby surf spots include Cachagua, Los Pinos, Salinas de Pullalli, Maitencillo, and Punta Docas. To get to Papudo, you can drive via the Aconcagua Santiago – Los Vilos highway or the Pan-American North Route, then take Route F-30-E. Public buses from Santiago and Valparaíso also stop at the main square in Papudo. The town has shops and restaurants along the seafront, and while wild camping is not officially allowed, some visitors have found free Wi-Fi and access to local facilities.
