Overview
About this Spot
La Boca is a surf spot located in Central, Chile, at the mouth of the Aconcagua River in Concón. The spot is known for its sandy bottom with some rocks and is surfable at all tides. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The length of the ride is usually between 50 and 150 meters. The area is very consistent for surf, with waves almost every day, but conditions can change quickly depending on swell direction, river flow, and sandbanks. During El Niño years, the waves can be world class, but sometimes the spot can be mushy or close out, especially on a west swell. Hazards include rips, undertow, rocks, and pollution, with an oil refinery nearby and the beach sometimes affected by pollution. The water can be cold, with winds coming off the Andes or from the Antarctic. There are few surfers in the water most days, but it can get crowded, especially on weekends, and there are often bodyboarders sharing the peaks. The spot is suitable for all levels, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and check the surf etiquette to avoid problems in the lineup. Access is easy, with public access and parking available nearby. Several surf schools are present, and you can find equipment rentals and lessons. If La Boca is flat, you can cross the river to Punta del Piedra or check nearby spots like Playa Amarilla, Negra, Las Bahamas, or Ritoque.
