Overview
About this Spot
Marsland Left is a surf spot located in Cornwall, United Kingdom. This spot features a left-hand wave that breaks over a coral reef bottom. The wave is best surfed during medium to high tide and is classified as a regional classic, offering a wave length between 150 to 300 meters. The surf experience required is intermediate, and the spot is known to be relatively empty, making it a good alternative to more crowded locations. The main peak is the left point breaking off the rocks to the south, which provides a long, steep wave with a significant shoulder. This wave is known to work best after mid tide on the push, particularly when the swell is above shoulder high, producing fast and powerful conditions. There is also a right-hand slab/point nearby that can offer steep faces, but caution is advised as it can become sectiony and dangerously shallow with larger swells and low tides. Access to Marsland Left requires either a paddle from Welcombe or a walk from Mead, and it is important to assess your skill level against the difficulty of the waves before entering the water. The surrounding area is characterized by natural beauty, with little sign of civilization, adding to the unique experience of surfing here. To reach the surf spot, drive up the A39 from Bude, follow signs to Welcombe Mouth, and park in the designated car park. From there, a short walk leads to the cliff where Marsland Point can be accessed by climbing over the rocks to paddle out. Surf etiquette should always be observed, especially in crowded spots. Respect the locals.
