About this Spot

Pulakan Right is a surf spot located in Bali, Indonesia. The spot provides right waves. It’s situated near Medewi on Bali’s west coast, approximately 400 meters south of Medewi Lefts. To access the break, surfers typically park at Medewi Lefts and walk along the beach until the shoreline transitions from rocky boulders to sand at the river mouth. Pulakan Right is a rivermouth break with a boulder bottom, offering waves that range from 50 to 150 meters in length. The spot is known for its more powerful and hollow waves compared to nearby Medewi Lefts. However, it breaks infrequently and can often result in closeouts. Optimal surf conditions occur with swell sizes between 3 to 8 feet, originating from the south, southwest, or southeast. The best wind directions are north, northwest, southeast, or northeast. It’s advisable to surf before 10 a.m. to avoid unfavorable winds. The spot is generally uncrowded, even on weekends. Surfers should be aware of several hazards, including sea urchins, rip currents, rocks, pollution from the river mouth, and the presence of sharks. The spot is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. When surfing Pulakan Right, it’s important to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. Always check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Be cautious of the rivermouth pollution, which has been known to cause eye and ear infections. The spot offers easier access in and out compared to Medewi due to its sand bottom. Nearby surf spots include Medewi, Yeh Leh, Balian, Yeh Gangga, and Kedungu.
