Keramas is a surf spot located in Bali, Indonesia. The spot provides both left and right waves. It’s situated on the eastern coastline of Bali in the Gianyar region. The beach features black volcanic sand and offers views of the ocean, including Nusa Lembongan island. Keramas is known for its powerful waves that break over a shallow volcanic reef. The wave is fast and hollow, making it suitable for experienced surfers. The spot works best during medium and high tides. Keramas is considered a world-class wave and is very consistent. The length of the ride is typically less than 50 meters. The spot can get crowded, so it’s important to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. For optimal surfing conditions, look for swells coming from the east, southeast, or south, with a minimum swell height of 4 feet. The best wind directions are west, northwest, or north. Early and mid-morning hours often provide the best conditions when winds are calm or light offshore. Access to Keramas is via a dirt road leading to a car park. From there, you can walk onto the beach. The spot is near other surf breaks like Masceti, Lebih, Purnama Beach, Ketewel, and Padang Galak. The name ‘Keramas’ translates to ‘shampoo’ or ‘wash hair’ in English, which is local slang for getting barreled. It’s also known as ‘The Golden Monkey.’ Keramas has hosted professional surfing events, attracting surfers from around the world. When surfing here, be aware of potential hazards like the sharp reef and strong currents. Keramas offers opportunities for experienced surfers to perform maneuvers and catch barrels.
