Pyramid Rock is a surf spot located in Oahu East Side, Hawaii. The spot is situated within the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, making it primarily accessible to military personnel. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Pyramid Rock has a sandy and rocky bottom, offering a variety of wave conditions for surfers. The spot is known for its very consistent waves, with a wave length ranging from 150 to 300 meters. Pyramid Rock is suitable for intermediate surfers, but it’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. The spot can get crowded, so it’s crucial to respect the locals and follow proper surf etiquette. Surfers should be aware of potential hazards such as rips, undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks in the area. The best surfing conditions at Pyramid Rock occur when a decent north swell comes in and the trade winds are not blowing hard. However, most of the time, the spot can be choppy due to heavy onshore flow. When Kona winds blow from the south, the spot can produce some nice barrel action. To access Pyramid Rock, drive from the H3 main gate to the second stoplight and turn left on Mokapu. Continue to the second stop sign, where you’ll see an airstrip. If the red lights are not flashing, proceed straight to Pyramid Rock; otherwise, wait for the gate guard to let you pass. Nearby surf spots include Ripps Reef, Dune Circle, Shorebreaks, Kalama, and Popoia Island.
