Pipeline is a surf spot located in Oahu North Shore, Hawaii. The spot provides left waves. It’s situated off Ehukai Beach Park and is known for its powerful, hollow waves breaking over a shallow coral reef. Pipeline is actually a series of three reefs, allowing it to work on various swell sizes. The spot is suitable only for advanced surfers and not good for intermediates or beginners. It’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. The wave quality is considered epic and the spot can get very crowded. Respect for locals and adherence to surf etiquette is crucial here. Pipeline offers a short, intense ride that requires perfect timing and quick adjustments to the fast-moving water. The wave picks up incredibly fast, seemingly out of nowhere, often throwing a perfect lip onto an extremely shallow and dangerous reef. The best forecast conditions include west, northwest, or north swells with a minimum height of 4 feet, and east, southeast, or south winds. Shortboards, mid and retro boards, and mini guns are suitable for this spot. Nearby surf spots include Backdoor, Ehukai, Off The Wall, Rock Piles, and Kammieland. The spot is easy to find, located on Kam Highway near Sunset Beach, opposite Sunset Elementary School. When it’s working, look for the perfect peak, crowded shoulder, and photographers lined up on the beach. The name ‘Banzai Pipeline’ originated in 1961 when surf filmmaker Bruce Brown captured a surfer riding a large wave at this location. Pipeline is considered one of the world’s most challenging and dangerous waves, attracting top surfers from around the globe. It’s been the site of numerous surfing competitions and has played a significant role in surf culture and history.
