When surfing Aligator Rock, it’s important to check the surf forecast and report before paddling out. The takeoff point is in front or to the right of the rock known as Aligator Rock when facing the ocean. The right wave offers a steep takeoff followed by a long wall, while the left is shorter but can be a bit hollower. Parking options include the area in front of the beach access along the wall of a tourist rental or in the dirt lot that fronts Leftovers. Aligator Rock has been described as ‘Little Sunset’ but with a more relaxed atmosphere. The spot can offer multiple opportunities for carving and coming off the bottom after the challenging takeoff. It’s crucial to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially when the spot gets crowded. Always check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. Remember to consult a surf map or webcam for current conditions. While Aligator Rock can provide excellent surfing opportunities, it’s essential to be cautious of the potential hazards and always prioritize safety in the water.
