Overview
About this Spot
Navarre Beach Pier is a surf spot located in Gulf of Mexico, Florida. The spot features a sand bottom and can be surfed at all tides. It’s suitable for surfers of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced. Waves at this spot break regularly, and the crowd is typically sparse with few surfers. The pier extends 1,545 feet into the Gulf, standing 30 feet above the water. Surf conditions are influenced by swell direction, wind patterns, and tides. Ideal conditions occur when swells come from the east-southeast, south-southeast, or south, with winds from the northwest, north, or northeast. The best time to surf is during the fall to spring months, especially when hurricanes generate swells in the Gulf. The area is known for its clean water, often referred to as the ‘Emerald Coast’ due to its distinctive color. Surfers should be aware of potential hazards such as rips, undertow, pier fishermen, and pilings. When surfing here, it’s recommended to park in the lot by the pier, then go out about 20 to 30 yards to the left of it. Paddle out about 50 yards and wait on the sandbar for waves. Nearby surf spots include Calle Hermosa, 17th Avenue, Fort Walton Pier, Okaloosa Pier, and Pensacola Beach Pier. The pier area offers amenities such as ample parking, beach access, a bait and tackle shop, and an outdoor restaurant. Remember to check the surf forecast and report before your session. Always respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially when the spot gets crowded. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The pier has an interesting history, having been rebuilt in 2010 after the original was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. It’s now constructed of concrete to withstand heavy seas and has survived several Atlantic hurricanes. Navarre itself has grown significantly since the 1970s and is now a major community in the Florida Panhandle, known for its natural environment and beautiful beaches.
