Barravento is a surf spot located in Bahia, Brazil, in the Barra neighborhood of Salvador, close to Farol da Barra and near the Barravento restaurant. The spot sits between the Christ and Barra Lighthouse, closer to Morro do Cristo. The bottom is sand, and you can surf here at all tides. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Barravento is known for its strong waves and regular surf conditions, with the best surf usually during the winter. Offshore winds come from the north, and the best swell direction is from the south, with waves coming from both local windswells and distant groundswells. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The spot is considered a regional classic and is frequented by surfers of all levels, but when the waves are good, it can get very crowded, making it tough for beginners to get outside due to many surfboards coming in your direction. On bigger days, locals and beachgoers often gather to watch and cheer for the surfers. Localism can be present, so it’s important to respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded.
