The spot is suitable for intermediate to professional surfers and is not recommended for beginners. Haggerty’s is divided into three main sections: Upper Haggerty’s, Haggerty’s, and Lower Haggerty’s. The spot is known for its left-breaking waves. Upper Haggerty’s often produces fast waves that can be challenging to ride. The main Haggerty’s section offers beautifully shaped left waves on solid west swells, with a tight take-off zone over shallow reef. Lower Haggerty’s only breaks when the swell is over 5 feet, providing a fun, mushy left ideal for cruising. The spot works best with southwest and west swells of at least 4 feet, and east, southeast, or south winds. Shortboards are the recommended board type for this spot. The spot is part of the rich surfing culture of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, which has a history of surfing clubs dating back to the 1930s.
