Overview
About this Spot
Queens is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, at the south end of Sea Point between Sunset Beach and Saunders’ Rocks. The spot features a coral reef bottom and is best surfed at high tide. The take-off is over a shallow rock, so be careful and start on the shoulder if you are new to the spot. The wave starts with a drop, followed by a bowl section where you can do a re-entry, and then it fades out. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. There is a deep channel with a rip current that helps you paddle out to the break, and you can use a 6-foot gap in the rocks on the right side of the beach to get out quickly. Getting back in can be tricky, especially on big days, so aim for the same gap to avoid swimming over jagged, mussel-covered reef. The spot is recommended for intermediate surfers. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. The surf spot provides left waves. The local crew at Queens is generally friendly, but respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded. Always check the surf etiquette when the spot is busy. Queens does not usually attract large crowds, but it can get busy when the forecast and report show good conditions. The best surf is with a southwest swell and southeast offshore winds, and summer months can be flatter. The area is also known for the ‘Sea Point Contact,’ a geological feature visible from the parking lot above the beach. There is a large parking lot above the beach for easy access. Nearby surf spots include Gasworks, Solly’s, Clifton 1st Beach, Clifton 2nd Beach, and Rocklands. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local surf resources before heading out.
