Hendaye is a surf spot located in Basque Country, France, very close to the border with Spain. Beach break with many peaks that provide bot left and right handers. It works on all tides so can be surfed all day long. The quality of the waves is considered normal, and the spot is fine for all levels of experience including beginners. Recommended surfboards for this location include beginner and softboards, shortboards, mid and retro boards, as well as longboards. The wave is usually not very long (less than 50 meters). Hendaye can get very crowded especially on those windy days when it’s the only sheltered place. Nearby surf spots include Socoa, Sainte Barbe, Sainte Barbe Inside, Erromardie, and Lafiténia. When surfing at Hendaye, it is essential to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially when super crowded. Check your skills before paddling out and be sure that your surfing level matches the spot. Respect the crowd.
