Overview
About this Spot
Krans is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, at Long Beach in Kommetjie. The spot is also known as Crans or Crons. To get there, drive about 15 to 20 minutes from Fish Hoek, follow signs to Kommetjie, and after entering the area, turn right at the four-way intersection near the school and continue along the road. The spot breaks over a sandy bottom and works on all tides. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The waves at Krans are hollow, fast, and can break hard on shallow sandbanks, especially when the swell is up. Many waves may close out, but with some patience and observation, you can find good tube rides. The spot is known for late take offs and can be heavy, especially when the swell is over 4 foot, so be ready for strong waves and the possibility of being bounced off the bottom. Bodyboarders enjoy the spot when the surf is smaller. The wave quality is considered a regional classic and the spot is best suited for intermediate surfers. The surf is regular, but summer months are often flat, with the best forecast and report for clean waves usually in March. Ideal conditions are a southwest swell with offshore winds from the east-southeast. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The spot is not usually crowded, but it can get busy when the surf is good. Always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and check the surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Watch where the experienced surfers are sitting and taking off to learn the best spots. Be cautious of dangerous rip currents and the shallow sandbanks. Nearby surf spots include Long Beach, Pebbles Shorey, Boneyards, Inner Kom, and Outer Kom.
