About this Spot
Weligama is a surf spot located in Southwest, Sri Lanka. The spot sits on the southern coast and features a long sandy beach stretching about two kilometers. The bottom is sand, and the waves break over this sandy seabed, making it a good place for surfers who are just starting out. The surf here works at all tides and the waves are usually small and slow, which is helpful for beginners who want to practice and get comfortable in the water. The length of the ride is usually between 50 and 150 meters. There is a reef break on the far right side of the beach, and the main beach area is especially good for longboard surfing. The spot is about an hour from Galle and is located around 15 minutes past the rock break.
