Overview
About this Spot
Benny’s is a surf spot located in Southwest, Sri Lanka, right in front of the center of Hikkaduwa. The spot sits on a coral reef bottom, and you will need to paddle a bit offshore, usually about five minutes, to reach the break. The wave at Benny’s is a left-hand reef break that works best with a southwest swell and is most consistent during bigger swells, which are not very common in Sri Lanka. The spot is best surfed at medium to high tide, as the reef can be very shallow, especially at low tide, and there are rocks and live coral to watch out for. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The surf here is considered a regional classic and is mainly suited for intermediate surfers due to the fast take-off and the shallow reef. The spot can get crowded on good days, but most of the time there are only a few surfers in the water. When the spot is crowded, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. The ideal conditions for Benny’s are a southwest swell with offshore winds from the east-northeast. The spot is located near other surf spots like Coral Garden, North Jetty Hikkaduwa, Hikkaduwa Main Point, and Owerkanda. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and the conditions match your level. The shallow reef and rocks make it important to be cautious, especially if you are not used to surfing over coral. For the latest surf forecast, surf report, map, and webcam updates, check reliable sources before heading out. Benny’s is part of the long-standing surf culture in Hikkaduwa, which has been a destination for surfers since the 1970s.
