About this Spot

Carriagem is a surf spot located in Algarve, Portugal, near the town of Rogil and the municipality of Aljezur. The spot sits within the Vicentine Coast Natural Park and is accessed by a dirt road from Rogil, followed by a steep descent of several hundred steps. The beach is remote, with hard, coarse sand and large rock formations, especially visible at low tide. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and the area is known for its powerful waves, which can reach over 5 meters in winter and around 3 meters during the biggest summer swells. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The best surf forecast for Carriagem is with a west or northwest swell, a minimum swell height of 2 feet, and offshore winds from the east or southeast. The spot works on all tides and it is not good for beginners. The waves can be very strong and the presence of rocks makes it dangerous, especially when the swell is big. It is recommended only for experienced surfers. Boards like shortboards, mid-lengths, and retro boards are commonly used here. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters and the spot is not crowded, but when there are other surfers, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. Nearby surf spots include Amoreira, Monte Clerigo, Lage do Pescador, Praia de Arrifana, and Arrifana Right. There are no facilities at the beach, so bring your own supplies. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level.
