About this Spot
Pagudpud is a surf spot located in Luzon, Philippines, in the northernmost part of the region, about 72 kilometers from Laoag City and over 550 kilometers from Manila. The area is known for its beaches like Blue Lagoon (Maira-ira Cove), which is popular for surfing. The surf spot has a sandy bottom and is suitable for all levels, but the waves sometimes break and the length is usually less than 50 meters. The main peaks include an A-frame in the middle of the beach, breaking about 15 meters from the sand, and a right at the north point that offers longer rides. There is also a right around the south point that breaks over reef. Hazards at Pagudpud include sea urchins, rocks, rips and undertow, man-made dangers like buoys, localism, pollution, and the presence of sharks. The spot can get ultra crowded, so it’s important to respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette when the lineup is busy. The surf season runs from October to April, during the northeast monsoon (Amihan), when offshore winds and swells are more consistent. The spot provides both left and right waves. Access can be tricky if you don’t know the area, but local transport like tricycles can get you to the beach. Nearby surf spots include Aparri, Lavini’s, and Sabang. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam updates, check reliable sources before heading out. Pollution and localism can be issues, so be mindful of the environment and the local surf community. Pagudpud is also known for other water sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing due to strong winds during the season.
