About this Spot

Puraran is a surf spot located in Luzon, Philippines, specifically on Catanduanes Island near Baras. The spot is known for its right-hand barrel waves, often called ‘The Majestic,’ and is best surfed during the typhoon season from July to October when swells from the Pacific Ocean bring bigger waves. The surf spot provides right waves. The bottom is coral reef, and the best conditions are usually at high tide. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters, and the spot is generally empty, but always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette, especially when the spot is crowded. The area is about a two-hour trip from the nearest airport, and you can get there by jeep, trike, or jeepney. Be aware of possible rip offs and unfriendly locals, so stay alert and respectful. There are nipa huts and small surf camps near the beach, surrounded by palm trees, where you can stay and eat local Filipino food, mostly rice-based meals. The setting is simple and close to nature. Rips and undertow can be strong, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The spot is recommended for intermediate surfers. For those looking for more surf, there is another spot called Moning, an outer right-hand reef break that you can reach by hiring a bankai boat. Twin Rocks is another nearby surf spot. Puraran Beach is also a good place to check the surf forecast, surf report, and surf map before heading out. There is no mention of a webcam, so check local resources for updates. The area is less crowded than other surf destinations, but always be mindful of the local community and environment.
