About this Spot

Makaha is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the Miraflores district, right in front of the Pacifico Sur surf club and near the well-known restaurant La Rosa Nautica. The spot is easy to find, with parking lots available in front of the break. The beach is rocky, with a shoreline full of boulders, rusty nails, and broken glass, so wearing booties is recommended. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The break is consistent all year, with waves usually ranging from waist to head high, and it works at all tides. The first break is about 300 yards out, with a couple more breaks on the way to the beach. The paddle out is long and can be challenging, especially for those used to beach breaks. The bottom is rocky, and there are man-made hazards like buoys in the water. Pollution can be an issue, with trash and red tide days, so check local surf reports and pollution levels before heading out. The area is right in town, close to the Costa Verde highway, which can mean some noise and air pollution. The spot is popular with local surf clubs, and there are several surf schools offering lessons and rentals, making it a common place for beginners. The wave is generally weak, so bigger boards work better here. Crowds are common in summer (November to April), but the spot is quieter at other times. There is a strong current going north past the breakwater, and inside the breakwater, the current moves south. Watch out for theft; keep an eye on your belongings. Always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and check the surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local surf resources.
