Overview
About this Spot
Omaezaki is a surf spot located in East Central Honshu, Japan, in the coastal city of Omaezaki, Shizuoka Prefecture. The spot sits at the tip of a peninsula and features a sandy bottom. The surf here is known for being very windy, which often makes it a better choice for windsurfing, but surfers can still find regular waves, especially during the summer typhoon season when swells reach the coast. The spot provides both left and right waves. The main surfing area is Omaezaki Long Beach, which is accessible by car and is about 25 minutes from the Sagara-Makinohara Interchange on the Tomei Expressway. Parking is available near the beach, and it’s a short three-minute walk to the sand. Facilities include restrooms, vending machines, and water stations for washing boards. The restroom buildings are shaped like sea turtles, as the beach is a nesting site for them. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters, and the spot is considered a regional classic suitable for all levels, but it’s important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot matches your level. The crowd is generally light, but always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and follow surf etiquette. Omaezaki has hosted events like the White Buffalo Omaezaki Pro, part of the World Surf League, attracting surfers from across Asia. The area is also popular for windsurfing and kiteboarding, especially in late winter and early spring when the wind is strongest. Nearby surf spots include Susuki, Katahama, Shizunami, Samejima, and Ohama Beach. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local resources before heading out. The city is also known for fresh seafood and a respectful local atmosphere.
