About this Spot

Windang Beach is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. Situated on the southern tip of the peninsula guarding the ocean entrance to Lake Illawarra, Windang Beach is part of the suburb of Windang, which is 98 km south of Sydney and approximately 20 minutes drive south of the Wollongong CBD. The beach provides both left and right waves, making it suitable for surfers of all levels. The bottom is sandy, and the waves are best at medium and high tides. The spot is known for its very consistent wave frequency, with wave lengths typically less than 50 meters. Despite its quality being normal, the beach is often empty, allowing for an uncrowded surfing experience. Nearby surf spots include Windang Island, Warilla Beach, Barrack Point, Port Kembla, and Mini Pipe. While the beach is popular for various water activities such as fishing, prawning, and windsurfing, it’s important for surfers to check their skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match their surfing level. Additionally, surfers should be mindful of the rips and undertow present at the beach. Always check the surf etiquette, especially when surfing crowded spots. Respect the locals.
