Overview
About this Spot
Woody Head is a surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia, known for its diverse surfing options and uncrowded waves. The spot features several peaks, including Seagulls Hole off the point, Breadfruit Hole in front of the headland, and Mossys on the south side. These small peaky reef breaks offer both left and right waves, making it an ideal location for intermediate surfers. The bottom is characterized by boulders, and the waves can be surfed at all tides. The quality of the waves is considered a regional classic, with a regular frequency and a length of less than 50 meters. Woody Head is typically empty, providing a peaceful surfing experience. Surfers should be mindful of fishermen in the area, as they can become cranky. The A-framed reef break just left of the Woody Head boat ramp is particularly notable and performs well at 6 feet. To reach Woody Head, follow the unpaved road approximately 10 kilometers north of Iluka, driving through the campground. Nearby surf spots include Iluka Bluff, Iluka, Turners Beach, Razors, and Pippies. When planning your surf session, be sure to check the surf forecast, report, map, and webcam for the latest conditions. Remember to respect the locals, check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots, and assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level.
