Overview
About this Spot
Cottesloe is a surf spot located in Perth Area, Australia, situated in the western suburb of Perth between the city’s central business district and Fremantle. The spot features a sand and rocks bottom and works at all tides, and it is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Cottesloe is best surfed with shortboard, mid and retro, and longboard surfboards with wave lengths usually under 50 meters. The spot shows very consistent frequency but tends to be crowded, so check surf etiquette and respect locals when entering the water. Check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. For forecast conditions, Cottesloe works best with southwest, west, and northwest swell directions with a minimum swell height of 2 feet, while northeast, east, and southeast wind directions provide optimal conditions. The beach features a 100-meter groyne with waves breaking on both sides, where the left side works better during larger southwest swells and the right side offers more consistent conditions. During summer months, a shark net is installed but removed in winter for surf access. The area includes nearby spots like Slimeys, The Cove, Isolator, Voodoos, and South Cott. The Cove offers a mellow right-hander breaking off the reef rock shelf, while Seconds provides a hollower left-hander for intermediate surfers. Isolators features a mellow left-right wave over reef that longboarders favor for longer rides. The spot has several car parks and a grassy reserve, though parking can be limited during busy periods. Surfers should be aware of potential rips, undertow, man-made dangers like buoys, localism, and sharks. The crystal clear water and protection from heavy winds make this a popular destination for surf.
