About this Spot

Capitola is a surf spot located in Bay Area, California, in Santa Cruz County. The spot features a mix of rocks and sand on the bottom and is known for its two main peaks: 1st Jetty and 2nd Jetty/Main Peak. 1st Jetty breaks only on swells of four to five feet or bigger and is popular with bodyboarders, offering hollow barrels when conditions are right. The 2nd Jetty/Main Peak is the main area, breaking both right and left, with the right being longer but more crowded, especially on weekends. The left is steeper and sometimes connects with the 1st Jetty’s wave. The spot is suitable for all levels, including beginners, but check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot matches your level. The length of the ride ranges from 50 to 150 meters. Consistency is regular, and the best conditions are with swells from the south, southwest, and west, with a minimum swell height of two feet. The best wind direction is northwest, north, or northeast. The spot provides both left and right waves. Capitola is a good place for longboards, shortboards, mid-length, retro, and softboards. The tide is best at medium. Pollution and water quality can be an issue after rain, so check the surf report and webcam for current conditions. Nearby surf spots include Privates Beach, The Hook, Pleasure Point, Rockview Street, and 26th Ave. Always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and follow surf etiquette.
