Overview
About this Spot
El Claron is a surf spot located in Central, Chile, just north of the fishing village of Horcon in the Valparaíso Region. The spot sits near a long bay and is one of the closest point breaks to Valparaiso. The main surfable areas are at the end of the point and the outer part, with the lineup being small and the takeoff zone tight, especially when the spot is crowded. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and submerged rocks can be a hazard, so caution is needed when paddling out. The surf spot provides left waves. The best surf conditions are during the winter months from June to September, with southwest swells and east winds. The ideal swell size is between 5 and 10 feet, and the break works best at low to mid tides. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The water temperature averages around 14°C (57°F) year-round, dropping to about 11.8°C (53.3°F) in August and reaching up to 16.4°C (61.5°F) in February, so a 2/3mm wetsuit is recommended. The spot is considered a regional classic and is suitable for all levels, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Access is straightforward, with parking available in the nearby town and a short walk to the break. The lineup is usually empty, but localism can be present, so respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded. Always check the surf etiquette and be mindful of pollution in the area. Nearby surf spots include Cau Cau, Ventana, Punta Liles, Maitencillo, and Puntilla Sanfuentes. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check reliable surf resources before heading out.
