Overview
About this Spot
Pelada is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, between Playa Guiones to the south and Playa Nosara to the north. The spot sits in the Nosara area and is known for its coral reef and sand bottom. The main surf break is a rocky reef on the north side of the beach, best with a north swell and incoming high tide. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Pelada is not very consistent and sometimes breaks, so checking the surf forecast, report, and webcam before heading out is a good idea. The spot is considered a regional classic and is best suited for intermediate surfers due to the rocky bottom and wave power. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The spot can get crowded, especially when the surf is good, so respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette when the lineup is busy. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Access to Pelada is easy by car, with parking available under the trees in front of the beach. The beach is less developed than nearby Guiones, offering a more laid-back vibe. You can find food and drinks at La Luna, located on the south end of the beach, or at Olga’s, which is right in front of the surf spot. From the lineup, you can see Hotel Nosara. The area around Pelada also features volcanic rock formations and tide pools, and the beach is popular for sunset views. Swimming is possible but can be rough due to the rocks and strong waves, so caution is advised. Nearby surf spots include Olga’s, Playa Nosara, Playa de Nosara, Ostional, and Barrigona. For the latest surf conditions, check the map, forecast, report, and webcam before you go.
