About this Spot

Bellair Beach is a surf spot located in Gulf of Mexico, Florida. This spot provides both left and right waves. The beach features a sand bottom and can be surfed at all tides. Bellair Beach is suitable for intermediate surfers and offers regular waves with a length of less than 50m. The spot is known for its empty lineup, making it a good choice for those seeking a less crowded surf experience. Bellair Beach has a very shallow onshore sandbar with a deep back. Waves come in from 8′ deep water onto a sandbar that’s about 2-3′ deep, and can be as shallow as 3″ on the inside. This creates the potential for hollow, wedgy, and steep waves, offering opportunities for tube rides on small glassy groundswells. The spot can handle waves from 1.5m to 2.4m (5ft to 8ft). For the best conditions, aim for low to mid tide, especially when the swell is coming from the North to Northeast direction. Winds from the North, Northeast, or East-Northeast typically provide cleaner conditions. Be aware of rips and undertow, and always check your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot matches your level. When surfing here, it’s important to respect the locals and follow proper surf etiquette. For parking, you can try the Bellair City Hall, just before going over the causeway to Bellair Bluffs/Largo. From there, walk to Gulf Blvd and head north one block. However, keep in mind that Bellair Beach is in a private residential area, so finding parking can be challenging. The spot is near other surf locations such as Sand Key Park, Indian Rocks Beach, Clearwater Pass, Clearwater Beach, and Redington Breakwater. Bellair Beach is part of the city of Belleair Beach, which has a total area of 1.7 square miles, with about 72% being water. The city has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild winters. As of the 2020 census, Belleair Beach had a population of 1,633.
