About this Spot
Playitas is a surf spot located in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, at the northern end of Playa Espadilla near Quepos. The spot is a beach break with a bottom made of sand and rocks. The surf here is best during medium to high tide, as some rocks that are exposed at low tide become hidden, so it’s a good idea to check the area at low tide to see where the obstacles are. The spot provides both left and right waves. Playitas is mainly for intermediate surfers, and the wave length is usually less than 50 meters. The surf is regular, and the area is often empty or has only a few people in the lineup, especially if you go early in the morning. The best conditions are with a swell from the south to southwest and wind from the northeast. The spot is ideal for longboarding. Access is straightforward, and you can reach Playitas by walking north from Manuel Antonio past a big rock or by taking a dirt road down from the Manuel Antonio road near Hotel Mariposa, where you can park on the beach. Amenities are limited, so bring your own supplies. Be aware that rocks are present in the lineup, and crocodiles can sometimes be seen in the area. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always check the surf etiquette. If you’re looking for a surf forecast, report, map, or webcam, check online before heading out.
