Corralillo

Corralillo is a surf spot located in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, in the Golfo de Nicoya region. The spot features a left point break with a sand bottom and is suitable for all levels of surfers. The average wave height is around 4-6 feet, and the wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The best surf conditions are found during low and medium tides, especially when a south or south-southwest swell is present. The ideal wind direction is from the east. The water temperature is warm, averaging about 29.1°C (84.4°F), so you won’t need a wetsuit. The spot is generally not crowded, but it’s important to respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette, especially if the spot gets busy. Access to Corralillo can be a bit tricky. You can park outside the port near a restaurant, but getting inside the compound may require taking a cab or a bus from Puntarenas, and there’s about a mile walk to the beach. During the rainy season, the dirt road can turn muddy, and at high tide, you might need to walk along the rocks. Watch out for a local dog near the rocks; it may bark and charge but usually leaves surfers alone if you yell back. The quickest way to paddle out is to walk along the rocks or beach on the left, then swim straight out. Be aware of rocks and possible rip currents in the area. There have been rare reports of crocodiles and stingrays, but sightings are uncommon. The spot is about 15-30 minutes south of Puntarenas and close to other surf spots like El Hoyo, Caldera, Tivives, Bajamar, and Dona Ana.
