Overview
About this Spot
Scarborough Point is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa. The spot sits on the Cape Peninsula, south of the city, near the small village of Scarborough. The surf spot features a point break at the south end of the bay, a reef break in the middle, and another reef to the north. There is also a sandbar at the base of the point that sometimes offers a right wave. The spot provides both left and right waves. The bottom is a mix of coral reef and sand, and there are rocks and kelp in the water, so watch your step and stay alert. Scarborough Point works best with a west swell, east wind, and at medium to high tide. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters and the spot breaks sometimes, so check the surf forecast and report before heading out. The area is known for strong rips and undertow, especially along the rocks on the southern side, so be careful and check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The spot is suitable for all levels, but always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and follow the surf etiquette. Scarborough Point is less crowded than other Cape Town surf spots, but it can get busy when the surf is good. Sharks are present in the area, and there are sea urchins, so take care. The beach is wild and backed by high peaks, and is part of the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Access is via a sandy track from the main road or through the Soetwater Resort parking area. The nearest amenities are at Camel Rock, at the turnoff to the beach. For more details, check the surf map, webcam, and local forecast before your session.
