Overview
About this Spot
I & J’s is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, near the Soetwater holiday camp between Kommetjie and Scarborough. The spot sits in a small kelp bay and is accessed by passing through the paypoint at the holiday camp, then veering left. Surfers need to pay to enter, but sometimes the sentries let you check the surf before paying. The area is known for its coral reef bottom, and the best conditions are usually at low and medium tide. The spot is considered a regional classic with a very consistent surf forecast and report, but the length of the ride is generally less than 50 meters. The spot provides both left and right waves. There are a few rideable peaks to the left of K 365, including some reformed waves on inside reefs and a righthander further down. The waves here are rarely surfed, and the area is mostly empty, so you can expect little to no crowd. However, when the spot is crowded, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. The spot is recommended for intermediate surfers, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Hazards include rocks, urchins, rips, undertow, sharks, and lots of kelp in the water. There are no facilities at the spot except for toilets at the campsite. Other nearby surf spots include K 365, K 364, Drainpipes, Outer Kom, and Inner Kom. The reefs south of K365 are easy to find and can offer good waves if the conditions are right. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam, check local resources before heading out. Always be aware of the conditions and respect the environment.
