About this Spot

Glen Beach is a surf spot located in Cape Town, South Africa, in the Camps Bay area. The spot sits between large granite boulders and dunes, separating it from Maiden’s Cove and Camps Bay Beach. Glen Beach is known for its consistent beach-break surf, with waves usually ranging from 2 to 6 feet. The bottom is sandy, and the best surf conditions are at low and medium tide. The spot provides both left and right waves. The length of the ride is typically between 50 and 150 meters. Glen Beach is considered a regional classic and is suitable for all levels, but the waves can be powerful and there are strong rips and undertow, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The area is also known for rocks in the lineup and occasional shark sightings. The crowd is usually small, but localism can be present, especially when the spot is crowded, so respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. There is a big graffiti on the wall that says ‘locals only’, so be mindful and respectful in the water. The left side of the spot, on the other side of the rocks, often breaks well and is usually less crowded. Early mornings are best before the wind picks up. Access to Glen Beach is a bit hidden, with entry points between luxury homes and through the dunes from Camps Bay Beach. Parking is limited to a small lot at Lower Kloof Road and Victoria Road, or along Victoria Road. During busy times, it’s easier to park in Camps Bay and walk. The spot is close to shops, restaurants, and bars on Victoria Road, and near other surf spots like Glen Reef, Camps Bay, Clifton 4th Beach, Clifton 3rd Beach, and Tidals. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, or webcam, check local surf resources before heading out.
