About this Spot

Treasure Beach is a surf spot located in Durban, South Africa, on the Bluff. The spot is known for its beach break with hollow and forceful waves that break over sandbanks and scattered rocks. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and the best surf conditions are found at low to mid tides. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The ride length is generally less than 50 meters, and the waves are short and intense, often offering a quick exit from the barrel. Heavy take offs are common when the swell is over 3 feet. The area has about 200 meters of peaks, with super hollow sand banks and occasional rocks. The spot is overshadowed by nearby breaks like Ansteys and Cave Rock, so it usually stays empty, even though the wave quality is high. To get there, drive down Ansteys Road to the end, park in the parking lot on the road, and walk along the beach in a southerly direction for about ten minutes. Enter the water by carefully climbing off the rocks. The beach is also known for its rocky shores, dune forests, mangrove swamps, and wetlands, which support a variety of marine life. At low tide, the rock pools are full of crabs, octopuses, marine mollusks, and surf anemones. The beach is dog-friendly, but visitors are encouraged to keep pets on leashes and clean up after them. Clean-up efforts are sometimes organized to protect the marine ecosystem. The spot is considered a regional classic and is best suited for intermediate surfers due to the challenging waves. The surf here is very consistent, but always check the surf forecast, report, map, and webcam before heading out. Respect the locals, especially when the spot gets crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level.
