Overview
About this Spot
Oasis Beach is a surf spot located in Durban, South Africa. The spot has a sandy bottom and is known for its shore dump, which can produce heavy closeouts, especially on high tide. Sometimes the backline also closes out. The surf here is very consistent, with wave heights usually between 6 and 8 feet. The spot is mostly empty, so crowds are not common, but always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette if you find more people in the water. The spot is suitable for all levels, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and the conditions match your level. The length of the ride is usually less than 50 meters. The best time to surf is during the winter months from June to August, when large and consistent swells arrive. During this period, the water temperature is cooler, around 22°C (72°F), so a 3/2mm wetsuit is recommended. In summer, from November to March, the weather is hot and the water is warm, but north-easterly winds can make the surf choppy, except in the early mornings. The spot is protected by shark nets. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Access is straightforward, just paddle out from the beach. Oasis Beach is located along Durban’s Beachfront Road; drive north until you see the sign for Oasis Beach. Nearby surf spots include Thekwini Beach, Sunkist, River Mouth, Battery Beach, and North Beach. The spot is also fun for body surfing in the closeout shore break. Always check the latest surf forecast, surf report, and webcam for up-to-date conditions before heading out. Use a surf map to locate the spot and plan your session. Make sure to check the difficulty of the spot and the current conditions before entering the water.
