About this Spot

Gremmies is a surf spot located in Durban, South Africa. The spot sits near the Moss Kolnik offramp, just past Durban International Airport heading towards the South Coast. To get there, turn left at the offramp, then right, go through the first set of traffic lights, take the second left, then right into Beach Rd, and left into the parking lot about 100 meters up the road. The car park is considered safe during the day. Gremmies is found to the left of the rocks with the swimming pool. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The bottom is a mix of sand and rocks, and the spot is known for rips and undertow, so be aware of strong currents. Paddle out close to the rocks, but watch out for fishermen in the area. The spot is consistent, with waves holding for about three days when the swell is working. It is generally fun in summer and gets bigger in winter. The typical ride length is between 50 and 150 meters. Gremmies is recommended for intermediate surfers due to the conditions and hazards. There are few surfers in the water, but always respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and check the surf etiquette. Sharks have been reported in the area, so stay alert. Before heading out, check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot matches your level. For the latest surf forecast, report, map, and webcam updates, check local resources. Nearby surf spots include Amanzimtoti, Baggies, Isipingo, Treasure Beach, and Cave Rock. Always check the difficulty of the spot and current conditions before entering the water.
